Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

After I graduated from the College of Charleston, I headed to Atlanta to go to Paralegal School. I returned to Charleston to get busy at work in some local law firms. I lived that life a while back before my world naturally got chaotic on its own. Never in a million years, did I think I'd get the opportunity to photograph such an iconic figure in the field of law.

Sandra Day O'Connor is the first female United States Supreme Court Justice nominated by Ronald Reagan in the early 80's. Fascinating lady who stepped down from the bench in 2002 to care for her sick husband. Having some time on her hands, she started a program called Our Courts to help introduce the judicial branch of our government to children.

Thanks to the efforts of local attorneys Molly Craig and Catherine Templeton, Justice O'Connor and South Carolina Supreme Court Justice Jean Toal were in Charleston on Thursday . I was asked to shoot their visit to the Charleston Day School where Justice O'Connor gave a speech to local middle schoolers and demonstrated this really cool interactive website. Show your children - it's got great games!

Another Day at Sullivan's

About 2 years ago this December, I shot little J......he was just feeling his way around and learning how to walk. Now, he's got a younger brother and he is off and running. Just check out those blue eyes...I mean REALLY! J has it all planned out.... he's going to be Spiderman for Halloween this year......and apparently, he wants his little brother to be the Sandman......And... I'm not sure, but I think...we saw a web inside my camera!

It was a good time this morning running around Sullivan's Island. We tried to go to a playground but nearly got taken away by mosquitos.....so what's better than the playground?? The good ole beach....with a little sand in the mouth....and the hair....and other places....:) Thanks for the playdate....your pictures will be up soon.

Sunday at Sullivan's

This is one of those families I've known for a long time.....sit near them in church......but still can't believe that S is in the 8th grade, M is in the 5th, etc......so much so that I probably sounded like that crazy ole aunt everybody's got who "just can't get ohver how much you've gurowwhn!"

I know Mr. S and Miss M a little better than I know little M and.....let me tell you.....how much fun did I have with him yesterday because SOMEONE is UP to NO GOOD! And parents, as much as that makes you cringe, that's just the way I like 'em. We may not have gotten the perfect Christmas card pose....but these are definitely something to look back on down the road. Thanks for playing with me....your pictures will be up soon.

Speed Racer

I love getting a chance to go back and shoot children I've done previously.....it's fun to see how they've grown and capture their new personalities. This little guy is the Super Hero I shot 3 months ago. Oh what a difference 3 months makes when you are a little guy. First off, I noticed he's been doing some good eating of his yellow/orange vegetables because he was shining a nice, healthy, oranged-toned nose! All three of mine did that so I knew right away he's a good eater.

He's just started to sit up and hold himself well, so I was excited to see him perched in the corner entertaining himself when I got there. He was in a great mood and he even let us surprise Daddy by setting him on top of his grandfather's car.......Go Speed Racer, Go! (Mike, do you think we really needed you to go all the way upstairs to get that jacket?)

Boys, Boys, Boys....and a Sweet Little Girl

I met S, O, H and S down at the park for a little play time this morning. I had a good time spotting various batman and spiderman tattoos, watching a little Indiana Jones play, and swinging with Miss Prissie. Just when I had told Mom and Dad we were about done....the fun began. For the closer...... a good, old fashioned WEDGIE! Brother-to-brother.....Dad-to-Sons.....and Boys-to-Dad. Baby S, stick with the girls....we'll just swing in the breeze while all this stinky, boy mess is going on.

High Hampton Wedding!

(I went back and added some images to this entry.....I couldn't resist because when I was editing, I came across more and more pictures of sheer HAPPINESS and I think we could all enjoy a little of that. You think this was a great day for them or WHAT?! Check out that vulcan death grip they've got on each other.....they ain't going anywhere without each other anytime soon.)

"Wow!" is all I can say after this weekend. Kim and Dan got married at High Hampton Inn in Cashiers, North Carolina. This is, by far, one of the most peaceful and beautiful settings that I have ever shot. I can't decide if the green, lush and mountainous scenery set the laid back tone for the weekend....or if the bride and groom's comfort and joy set the tone......but between the two, it was a fantastic celebration surrounded by close friends, family and perfect weather. I must admit, when Kim told me she was getting married in August, all I could think was "MUGGY".....but not so in the North Carolina mountains.

The ceremony was followed by a rockin' reception where the Blue Dogs played to a room full of fans. This wasn't one of those weddings that takes 10 songs to get the grandparents to finally dance......they had people ready to roll with the first song.

I promised Kim and Dan I'd get a sneak peak up by Sunday night, so I need to apologize that I didn't make it......that mountain air causes one to sleep late and gettin' down the mountain takes a little while ;) Thanks for a great time.....

Oh, they are big golfers and he proposed to her on their favorite hole with that Caddy outfit as a present....and put her new last name on the back and a ring in the pocket.....sooo it made sense to let who was there to celebrate the nuptials to sign it....I love those stories.
